RAIMOND MUST BE DISCUSSED .

Love triangles, unreturned affections, and feigned passions; treacherous friends and ideals reduced to dust — these were the fragments of the mosaic that formed Raimond Valgre’s short life. A human being caught between the cogs of a machinery driven by base instincts, lies, self-betrayal, and corruption becomes nothing more than lubricating oil, keeping the merciless perpetual motion of fate running.

Musically, Raimond Valgre was — and remains — a king; in his own time and society, however, he was merely a pawn, whose sacrifice in the name of a so-called “greater good” was deemed inevitable, even desirable. For many, Valgre’s death conveniently resolved an inconvenient problem: the personal question of a man who wished to walk his own path. Even today, society continues to intrude ever more deeply into the privacy of the individual; even today, those who choose to walk their own road remain a thorn in many eyes. Is there still among us a Raimond — a gifted individual unwilling to follow the path of conformity, someone whose removal would be considered easier than understanding? And what, this time, could we do differently?

Mart Sander’s play of the same title premiered in autumn 2023 at Teater Nuutrum, quickly earning the acclaim of both critics and audiences. After two years of performances across Estonia, the company is reuniting to bring this dramatic story to the screen. The film is scheduled for release in early 2027.
